Choosing fonts for SaaS — three rules that survive
Variable fonts, system stacks, custom families. The choice matters less than the consistency. Three rules.
Variable fonts, system stacks, custom families. Designers argue endlessly. The choice matters less than the consistency.
Three rules that survive trends:
- One sans, one mono. Sans for body and UI. Mono for code, numbers, monospaced data. Serif optional for editorial.
- System stacks first. -apple-system, BlinkMacSystemFont, Segoe UI, Inter. Custom font only if it carries brand.
- Variable fonts beat multiple weights. One file, every weight from 100 to 900, smooth transitions.
For Russian and English: Inter Tight, Geist, IBM Plex Sans all support Cyrillic well. Avoid display fonts that drop Cyrillic — looks broken.
