SQLite in production — the renaissance

For years SQLite was "just a dev database". Litestream, Turso and rqlite changed that. Real production stories.

SQLite handles 100k+ writes per second on modern SSD. For most internal tools, blogs and SaaS up to 100k users, it's enough.

Litestream replicates SQLite to S3 in real-time. Turso runs SQLite at the edge with sync. rqlite gives consensus across multiple nodes.

The win: zero ops. No managed Postgres bill, no replica setup. Just a file on disk.

The catch: writes are global-locked. Multi-writer scenarios still need Postgres.
